Which Voice Will You Listen To? Learning To Understand When You Should Not Listen

Which Voice Will You Listen To? Learning To Understand When You Should Not Listen

There are Many Days when I have No Motivation...

Whatsoever.

Truly, All I Want to do is Lay Under the Covers and Sleep.

Today has been one of those Days.

I have spent around 80% of the Day thus far trying to Fix Up some of My Technology.

Not My Idea of Fun, but Needed.

Then, I came to a Realization...

This Weekend there are Spartan Races Near Me.

For those who have not heard of Spartan, it is a Form of Obstacle Course Race.

You Run a Certain Distance, and Along the Way You Must Do Obstacles.

Things like...

Jumping Over 6 Foot Walls...

Picking Up and Carrying 80-100 lbs Boulders...

Crawling Under Barbedwire...

Throwing a Spear...

You Know, like a Crazy Person Decides to do "For Fun".

Anyways, I always Do "At Least" Three of these Races Per Year, plus one of Spartan Trail Races which is just Running without Obstacles.

I have been Meaning to Sign Up for Three Races for this Weekend...

A 5k with 20+ Obstacles, also called a Sprint...

A 10k Trail (No Obstacles)...

A 10k with 25+ Obstacles, also called a Super...

All between Saturday and Sunday.

And I had Not Signed Up for Them.

That is When the Voice Popped into my Head...

"You're Tired, it will be Ok to Not Do It This Year."

"You've Got Nothing To Prove!"

"You Could Make Up Some of the Races Later this Year!"

"No One is Going To Care!"

In Reality, everything this Voice was saying is Indeed the Truth.

I am Tired.

It would Not be the End of the World if I Decided to say No to these Races.

I Could Make up the 5k Sprint and 10k Super Later this Year.

I Really Do Not Need To Prove Myself to Anyone.

I've done these Races Every Year since 2019, and I've done the Version of these Races that are 50k with 60+ Obstacles.

Plus, No One Else Really Cares if I Do These Races Or Not.

You Surely Do Not.

But...

Perhaps there is "One" Person Who Would Care...

Me.

Or, at least the Version of Me Who Reaches their Potential.

There was another Much Smaller and Softer Voice...

But it was Saying Something Different.

"Prove It To Yourself."

"You Talk About Being An Exemplar and Reaching Your Potential."

"You're Tired, But Still Capable."

"If You Do Not Go, This Opportunity Will Be Gone Forever."

"The Easy Way Is To Quit, But Those Who Rise Stand Out."

"Live."

Everything this Voice was Saying was Also True.

Which then Brings Us to the Question...

Which Voice Will You Listen To?

Who Do You Allow To Win the Day?

Which Path Will You Decide To Walk?

Or...

In this Case, Run?

Here's the Reality...

Every Moment that You Live, You have Choices.

Do or Do Not.

Attempt Or Give Up.

Stride Toward Your Potential...

Or Watch It Slip Further Away Each and Every Moment.

There is Only One Person Who Can Make This Decision For You...

Yourself.

We are Each Responsible for Choosing How We Live...

And Each Responsbile for the Consequences of Our Choices...

For Better or For Worse.

The Decision is Solely Yours.

But I Know the Decision I Make.

I Choose to Live Into My Potential.

To Strive To Become Better.

To Stand Up Again After I Fall.

To Keep Moving Forward Toward My Goals.

To Face the Challenges and Overcome Them.

That is the Voice that I Listen To...

And I Will Ignore Any Other Voice that Says Otherwise.

So that is What I am Doing.

I Signed Up for All Three Races.

I Will Wake Up at 5 AM the Next Two Days.

I Will Race and Overcome Literal Obstacles.

What Will You Choose?

Which Voice Will You Listen To?
