Legacy.
It is a word that I think about often.
What is it?
How does One Create One?
Why is it that We Seem to be Obsessed with the Idea?
I look at How Others look to Create their Legacy...
I Try to Understand the Legacies of those who have Come Before Us now...
I Wonder about My Own Legacy.
What I See So Often...
Are these Grandiose Projects that So Many People Set Out to Accomplish.
They Believe that at the Culmination of these Projects...
They will have Created their Legacy.
So they Work Hard to Get to that Finishing Point...
They Will Do Anything...
Say Anything...
To make Sure that they Get to that Culmination.
But So Often...
In the Desire to Reach the End of the Goal...
They Become Maleficent...
They Cause Injury and Harm to Those Around Them...
Our of Fear...
Or Anger...
Or Desperation...
To Reach the End.
What this Does is Tarnish the Legacy they had Set Out to Create...
Instead of Being Remembered for the Culmination...
They are Remembered as a Villain...
A Sinner...
A Devil in the Guise of a Person.
What they Failed to Understand about Legacy...
Is that the Legacies that People are Best Remembered For...
Are Not Created at the Final Moment.
Rather...
The Legacy is Created Every Single Day...
Every Moment...
Every Second that they Walk Through Life.
If they are Careless are Destructive During that Walk...
Then People will Focus on the Trail of Carnage that they Left in their wake...
And their Entire Legacy will become Corrupted...
Irredeemable...
And Perhaps in Some Ways...
Tragic.
You Put So Much Time and Effort...
Hope...
Into a Dream of the Future that You So Desperately Want and Believe will Define You...
And it Does...
But in a Way that You Never Expected.
You Expect Praise and Cheers and Champagne Bottles...
But are Met with Protests and Knives and Torches...
With People who are Ready to Burn Everything that You Worked So Hard to Create.
This is the Culmination of the Legacy You Create...
If You Fail to Understand that the Entire Journey is Important to Your Legacy.
It is Not Just the End that Matters...
If You Attain the Goal at All.
Everything that the Accomplishment is Built Upon will be Equally Judged...
And If You have Built Everything Upon Pain...
And Suffering...
And Neglect...
Then You Will Disappear.
