Today has not been my best day.
I'm Human.
Life Happens.
My eyes are feeling Strained.
I've been looking at a Screen for Far too Long.
Part of it has been (attempting) to Catch Up on my Work.
I've made some great Progress.
But Another Part has been working through Tech Issues.
I am "Awful" at Technology.
Give me people, and I can Navigate nearly Any Situation.
But when the Computer gives me an Error Message?
I'm Hopeless.
So, there has been quite a bit of that going on Today as I set up a new Domain for the Newsletter: https://www.SeekingSageship.org/
I got it working which is great!
But it was a Battle, mixed with a lot of Messages with some (Very Patient) Helpdesk Individuals.
Then, I finally get home...
Started making dinner with the Spouse (Something that is Very Calming to Me)...
When another thing was Smacked On Top.
My Mother-in-Law calls about her Car Battery being Dead, and Needing a Jump.
Plus, she needed to make an appointment at basically the same time.
All unexpected.
All right as I was Hoping to Wind Down and Relax.
Not to mention I'm "Not" a Car Guy (Luckily I "Do" Know how to Jump a Car).
Got the Car Jumped.
Made it Home.
Dinner was ready (I have a wonderful Spouse), but it would have been nice to cook with her.
Now, we're here.
Writing.
At least this is something that I Enjoy.
But as I thought about the day, basically all of my Buttons were Pushed at one point or another.
Irritation.
Frustration.
Tests of Patience.
Confusion.
It Adds Up Very Quickly.
It was Exhausting.
But I made it through.
Didn't Explode at Anyone.
No Technology was Thrown Against a Wall.
Everything was Completed.
Checking my WHOOP Band, I was only in the "High Stress" or Dis-Stress Zone for Less than 20 Minutes, despite Everything that Happened.
But how do you make it through a Day where all your Buttons are Pushed, without Exploding?
The first thing is Recognizing that you're Experiencing these Different Emotions.
Emotions are Not Your Enemy...
Unless you allow them to Dictate your Actions.
It is ok to Feel the Emotions.
They are Telling You Something.
But you must Choose how you want to Act.
You want your Wayset to be Productive.
Could I throw Technology against a Wall?
Absolutely.
I have done that many times throughout my life.
I've Definitely Broken a few pieces of Tech in the Process.
But it Never Achieves Anything Productive.
Usually, it only "Causes" More Issues.
It is Much More Beneficial to simply Understand what the Emotions are Saying.
Then, Breathe.
Our Breath helps Regulate a few different Brain Systems Simultaneously.
For most people, as their Buttons get pushed, their Breathing Changes Subconsciously.
It Speeds Up.
This is Counter-Productive to the Goal of Understanding Emotions and Choosing your Wayset.
So, get your Psychophysiology to work "With" You.
Focus on Breathing when the Intense Emotions start Rising.
Another thing that Helps is Calming the Nervous System Down.
When the Nervous System begins to send us into Fight-or-Flight Mode, we Lose the Ability to Think Clearly.
Good luck making Good Decisions when you're in Flight-or-Flight Mode.
It Will Not Happen.
Instead, Reduce the Nervous System Tension.
There are quite a few techniques that exist for this.
Some are easier to use in the Moment, and others are easier if you can Walk Away.
There are practices like Tapping, Rocking, Meditation, and Cross-Crawling to name a few that can Benefit.
Find one that works for your Situation, and Use it.
The Last thing is to Focus Your Mind on the Long-Term.
Think of it like this.
Will this Problem get worked out?
Most of the time, the answer is Yes.
Maybe not "Immediately", but within a relatively short period of time.
Then, once it "Does" get worked out you have to ask...
Will it Matter?
Nearly every time, the Answer will be No.
It will Not Matter in the Long-Term.
If someone Reminded You about it in 10 Years, you'd be wondering Why "They" Remembered it for 10 Years when you couldn't even pinpoint the Month or Year it happened.
When you put things into Perspective, Few Things have a Lasting Impact.
Unless of course You "Give" it Lasting Impact.
The Power is Completely Up to You.
Do you "Want" This to have a Lasting Impact?
If Not, then Don't.
When you Combine these Aspects, you will be able to Walk Away from just about Any Challenge.
You can have days where your Buttons are Constantly Pushed, but you Barely Register Psychophysiological Dis-Stress.
You can walk away from it all without Regretting Your Actions.
That is one of the Most Powerful ways to Go Through Life.
