What did You want to be when you grew up?
Well, for a Long Period of time, the Answer that most Youth would give was working for a Large Tech Company.
Google, Amazon, Apple, and the Like.
It was a badge of Honor to even Strive to be at the Forefront of Technology.
It was even something I desired when I was in High School.
However, the Trends seem to be Changing Quickly.
The Highest Potential Individuals from Gen Z seem to find Tech Jobs "Significantly" Less Desirable than Past Generations.
According to a survey from the National Society of High School Scholars, which looked at 10,000 High-Achieving Students, Tech has had a Dramatic Drop.
Where Tech Companies used to be considered the Most Desirable organizations of past generations, Gen Z would much rather work in different Industries.
Of note, Health Care has become the Most Desirable Industry, and Government Jobs have jumped up the List.
It's not just with the Youth Either.
According to Handshake, a job site for college students, applications to Government Jobs Doubled, while applications for Tech Jobs Dropped nearly 20%.
What has changed though?
Why has the Tech Industry Dropped so Dramatically in Prestige?
What is it about these other Industries (including Government Work which Traditionally is looked down upon by Top Talent), that has become so Attractive?
Well, let's look at Tech for a second.
What was so Attractive about the Tech Industry to Previous Generations?
Well, for most individuals, it was the Idea that the Improvements in Technology could Positively Change Lives and that by working at these companies, Individuals could Dramatically Improve their Livelihoods.
But is that the case today?
With the Oversupply of Individuals in the Tech Industry, the Average Wages of Employees are worse today than Traditional Trade Professions.
Worse than this though is the complete Lack of Stability in the Industry.
Since 2023, there are been over 350,000 Individuals who have been Laid Off by the Tech Industry Alone.
People don't feel Secure in the Industry anymore, which has led to increasing trends of Disengagement and Quiet Quitting.
With this, the extreme rates of Burnout (which impacts 80% of Employees), are often exacerbated in the Tech Industry.
Why would New Employees want to be part of any Industry that Pushes them to Work Beyond their Limits, Without Fairly Compensating them for the Hardships they Endure, with No Promise of Security?
It makes No Sense to a Smart Individual.
But it has become even worse when Leaders make Illogical Decisions with Authoritarian Dictatorship-Like "Authority" as has continually happened in the Tech Industry with the Failed Return-To-Office "Mandates".
Across the Board, these "Mandates" have Decreased Productivity, been Ignored for their Stupidity, led to Insubordination and Strikes, and overall have simply made an already Toxic Workplace Worse.
Exactly as I predicted they would when they were first being discussed, based on Simple Human Psychophysiology.
Why would Smart Individuals Subjugate themselves to that?
Why would Smart Individuals "Want" to Join a Team where they "Know" they will not be Listened to Or Understood?
The Reality is that Smart Individuals Won't.
That is Why the Tech Industry has been having a Mass Exodus of Talent recently, and Why there are so many Tech Companies crying out for "Innovation" and Failing to Achieve Anything At All.
Then, when we look at the Tech Industry, has Anything been Leading to Better Lives?
We can look at the Backlash against newer technologies like VR, AI, and the Metaverse.
All Technologies that have thus far Made Human Lives Worse, with No Successful Use Cases where they have Improved People's Lives.
Plus, these Technologies have been proposing Dystopian-Like Futures in their "Use Applications" as have been seen in Advertisements from these Industries.
We also see the Spreading Knowledge of Addiction Tactics used by Tech Companies.
This has led to Wellness Movements that seek to end Tech Addiction.
Not to mention the growing Recognition that Tech is Contributing to Extreme Decreases in Mental and Physical Health.
All of these are things that younger generations are moving against, and it is easy to see the answer to whether Tech Companies are Improving our Lives...
Tech Companies are "Not" Improving Our Lives.
If anything, they have been Continually Contributing to Decreasing Humanity's Wellbeing, all while putting Money in the pockets of a Few Rich Individuals, at the Expense of Everyone Else in the Industry.
Why would a Smart Individual want to be a Part of that System?
They Don't.
We Further See What the Younger Generations Desire with their New Job Preferences.
What does the Health Care Industry do?
At least in Theory, they Save Lives.
(It is Highly Debatable if the Pharmaceutical Companies Save Lives, or if they Only Keep People Addicted to Treatments that Never Fix the Problems at Hand, but these are Not on the Top Lists of places to work for).
What about the Government?
Well, the Government has long been Known for its Job Security.
Not to mention the Growing Educational Debt Problem which individuals can Solve by Working Long Enough for the Government.
That would help these individuals attain Financial Security.
Then, if we look at the Jobs at the top of the Governmental List - the FBI, NASA, and the CIA - what do we see?
They are all doing Work and Research designed to Improve the World.
This is what the Next Generation Desires.
So, let's look at all of this.
What is Being Avoided in the Changing Job Preferences?
Toxic Workplaces that are Decaying with Burnout.
Low Emotional Intelligent Leaders (Seen via the Failed "Mandates").
Unstable Work with Unfair Compensation.
Meaningless Work and Work that Damages Human Lives.
Then what Job Preferences is Being Sought After?
Job Security.
Financial Security.
Meaningful Work.
Work this is Improving Human Lives.
Leaders that Understand Their Employees and the Real Challenges Employees Face in Today's World.
Workplaces that Care about the Health of their Employees and Contribute to it.
How can Leaders Benefit from this Knowledge?
As Leaders, if you Fail to Understand your Employees, and what Future Generations are looking for, then you will Fail.
Talented Employees Leave Bad Situations because their Talent gives them the Ability To Leave Easily.
New Employees will Avoid Bad Situations like the Plague.
If your Workplace is like this, it will Decay and you will Fail as a Leader.
It is only a matter of Time.
However, knowing what Employees are Looking for, and will continue to be looking for, provides an Opportunity for Leaders.
If you Change the Workplace, and "Become" what Employees are Looking for, then your Success will Skyrocket Quickly.
It is Easy to Attract and Maintain Top Talent when you "Are" Everything they are Looking For.
But for this to happen, what Leaders need is to Design a Regenerative Legacy.
What Regenerative Legacy Design does is "Create" the workplace that Employees are already seeking, as well as Provides Psychophysiological Benefits that Employees are not even aware that they Need to Flourish.
This type of Workplace will Redefine Industries as Top Talent will Flock toward these Organizations.
The Employees at these Organizations will get a 20x Increase in Productivity (Due to the Relationships between Burnout and Flow).
These Organizations will create Future Innovations that we can't even Conceive of Yet.
That is the Future.
Leaders who Embrace the Future of the Workplace will be the ones who Succeed.
