When You Do Something Every Day, Eventually You'll Hit It.
The Slump.
It is Inevitable.
I Have Hit It.
Many Times.
I Hit it Today.
Preparing to Write my Daily Article, this Article, I Hit the Slump.
Hard.
It becomes a Struggle to get Anything Out of Yourself.
There are a Variety of Reasons that we will Hit the Slump.
It could be Due to Too Much Boredom.
Sometimes when you do Something Consistently, you will Feel Like You're Just "Going through the Motions".
There is the Version of this where Your Brain has not Figured Out New Angles for the Knowledge you Currently Have.
Perhaps instead it is Too Much Struggle.
You're Pushing Yourself Too Much or Too Quickly to try to Get a Result.
But as you Do This, the Result is Pushed Further Away.
Maybe you're Trying to Rely on Emotions.
Emotions are Fickle Things and You'll Discover You Are Unable to Find Them When Needed.
So, at some point, the Slump will Strike.
Now, this is the Thing About the Slump...
You will Discover that it is a Seductive Force.
However, it is Not to Your Benefit.
It will Try to Seduce You to "Anything" Else.
Social Media.
The Doom Scroll.
Music.
TV Shows or Movies.
Snacking.
A Nap.
However, whatever the Slump Tries to Convince You to Do "Instead" of whatever You're Supposed to Do is a Trap.
Why?
Well, Struggle itself is Not Necessarily a Bad Thing.
When you look at Flow States, which is where we are Most Productive and Accomplish Our Best Work, you'll Learn about the Flow Cycle.
It is the Steps that Must be Followed to Achieve Flow States.
The Very First Step?
Struggle.
The Slump is Indeed a Form of Struggle.
So, you must Understand that the Slump is Not Your Enemy.
If you "Run" from the Slump, then You've Doomed Yourself.
On Multiple Levels.
First, You will Not Hit Flow when you were Looking For It.
This then becomes a Missed Opportunity.
The thing about Time is that We Only have So Many Opportunities.
They Dwindle, Day by Day, but we Never Know How Many Remain.
One Day...
They Will All Be Gone.
Do Not Waste Your Opportunities.
But Running from the Slump Creates Another Problem.
You are Teaching Your Body, Subconsciously, to "Fear" the Slump.
So what happens?
The Next Time the Slump Comes...
You're More Likely to Follow Your Previous Strategy...
Run.
So You'll Run Away from Each Slump.
Again.
And Again.
Until it Becomes a Habit.
Which becomes Difficult to Overcome.
Why?
As Humans, Habits are a Mechanism to Conserve Energy (Mg-ATP).
This is Something Our Bodies Love.
By Nature, we are Lazy.
Myself Included.
However, we can Use this to Our Advantage.
If we Create Habits that "Benefit" Us, as Strange as it Sounds, It will Use "Less" Energy than "Not" Doing the Beneficial Habit.
So, even if you Habit is Working Out Everyday, this can Use "Less" Energy (Mg-ATP) than Not Working Out!
If your Habit is Working Out, then when you Do Not Work Out, your Body becomes "Worried" which actually Uses "More" Energy in the Process of Worrying.
But, of course, Habits can also be Detrimental.
So, if you Run from the Slump, you begin a Detrimental Habit.
It begins a Process where you Always Run from Your Potential.
Why?
Your Potential Exists "In" the Flow State.
So if You Run from Struggle, which is Necessary for Flow, You Also Run from Your Potential!
So, What Do You Do When You Do Not Know What To Do?
First, Do Not Run!
Then, You Must Lean Into The Slump.
It is a Form of Struggle that you Must Accept to "Find" the Next Step of the Flow Cycle.
Release.
When we find the Right Point, the Struggle is "Released", and we Discover that it Disappears!
Then, there is the Flow State.
What you were Looking For the Entire Time.
When the Slump Hits, Look for Different Angles.
Try Different Tactics.
But Do Not Run.
If you Lean Into the Slump, You'll Discover the Release Point.
Over time, you Discover that the Slump is your Friend.
The Slump is a Signal.
You're on the Right Path.
Keep Going.
