Many Leaders desire One Thing.
Success.
Now, what "Success" means could be so many different things.
Regardless of what "Success" means to you though, there are some things that will Absolutely Prevent It across the board.
Near the Top of that List?
Focusing on the Skills that are Most Weak.
Now, this applies to You personally as a Leader, but also to your Team and your Organization as a whole.
So often, Leaders have their Sole Attention on Weak Skills.
It plays out in a Bunch of Different Ways.
For many Leaders, it is being Highly Self-Critical of Failures that occur due to Weaknesses.
Often this translates to being Critical of the Team as well.
It also plays out in Looking at and Setting Goals, focusing on what Skills are Missing.
It might sound something like, "If I/we only had 'X Skill', we could hit the Goal!"
Or, it could be seen while looking at your Organization compared to other Organizations, especially Competitors.
Often here, it is seeing that the Competitor has something - A Skill, a Person, a Team, an Advantage - and Focusing on how Your Organization doesn't have that.
What is the Problem with all of these?
What you Focus on, you find More Of.
Our Focus will Determine Our Reality.
So, if you are only Focused on what you Lack, you will Only find things that you Lack as a Leader.
You will only find things your Team Lacks.
You will only find what your Organization Lacks.
You will only find why you Lack Success.
This Creates a couple of Problems for Leaders.
First, it makes all of your work as a Leader tinted with only Problems.
This Negative Perspective will spread and cause everyone to see everything Negatively.
How You Perceive things as a Leader will eventually be how Everyone Perceives things on your Team(s).
But the Problems expand from here.
When you Focus on what you Lack as an Organization, the tendency that most people have is they pursue "Every" Rabbit Hole they can find to "Fill In" what is Lacking.
The Problem?
There are too many Rabbit Holes that exist.
As Leaders attempt to go down Every Rabbit Hole, their Energy (Mg-ATP), their Team(s) Energy (Mg-ATP), and their Resources (Money, Time, etc.) all become spread too thin.
In that Spreading, nothing gets accomplished.
It becomes a Rat-Race to the Bottom of Failure.
It further Creates More Problems on top of what is Lacking.
Very Quickly it ends in Burnout where No One Wins.
Burnout prevents Innovation, decimates Problem-Solving, Lowers both EQ and IQ, often turns Teams against each other, and worse.
As you can Imagine, these are all Necessary for Success, so when Burnout strikes, Failure is Imminent.
This also directly Impacts Teams.
When you Focus only on what Team Members Lack, they Feel Despised.
Regardless of what you actually Believe, for Employees Perception "Is" Reality.
So if their Perception is that You Despise Them (Regardless of whether it is True or Not), they will Act "As If" You did Despise Them.
How do people React when they Feel Despised?
Not in any way that can Lead to Success.
Some will do the Minimum to keep their Job.
It can easily lead to Quiet Qutting.
People won't Challenge Ideas even if they Know those Ideas will Fail.
Other times those Employees will "Fight Back", which can cause Insubordination, Active Disengagement, and worse.
No matter how it plays out though, it will Only Prevent Success for Leaders.
So, what is a Leader to do in this Situation?
The Key is instead of Focusing on what is Lacking, to look at the Strengths Available to you.
Look at what Strengths "You" Have as a Leader, and Use Them to your Advantage!
Look at the Members of your Team, and see what Strengths they have, and how those Strengths can be Utilized to Benefit Everyone.
Look at your Organization and see where its Strengths lie within the Market, and Focus there!
Now, it isn't a Bad Thing to "Know" what Skills you may be Missing, as you may be able to Acquire those through Training or Hiring eventually.
However, if you Focus on what is Missing, you never Unlock the Strengths and Potential that are already at your Disposal as a Leader!
The Strengths and Potential that are already there will be your Best Chance at Success.
Within those Strengths, You and Your Team(s) will Feel Empowered.
Focusing on your Strengths as an Organization helps you Stand Out amid a cacophony of Negatively Focused Comparison Diseases in Industries.
Through your Strengths, you will be able to make Real Progress toward Success, which may help you be able to fill in whatever may be Missing.
People want to be on a Winning and Empowering Team, and if you have that, the people who will help you Succeed will "Want" to be on Your Team.
However, if people see a Negatively Focused Organization that is Disempowering, they won't even Consider Your Organization.
It is only through Focusing on your Strengths and what you "Do" have Available Already that Success can be Created.
