Written by a human, for humans, always.
Over the years, I have met many different types of people.
Nearly everyone I have met claims to be something...
"I am a(n)..."
Fill in the blank.
But there is a truth that I have discovered...
Many people say they are being something...
When in reality they really just have a desire of becoming something.
Here's the problem...
Having a desire to become something...
Does not automatically make you be that thing.
Let me give you an example...
I know many people who have called themselves artists over the years.
I know one person in my life who has consistently been an artist in their life.
Most of the people I have met that called themselves artists...
Were good at art...
Some even excellent...
But rarely would they do the work that is required to get their art seen, shown, and sold...
And only one person I know does it as a career.
That one person is being an artist.
All the other people I have met have a desire to become an artist...
Some of them may actively be becoming an artist...
But it is not who they are all the time...
They are not consumed in their art...
They do not do what is necessary to become recognized as an artist.
This is not to say that there is a problem with becoming...
Everyone needs to go through the process of becoming before they can be.
What I am saying...
Is that most people have a dream about what it means to be something...
But fail to actually understand what that means...
What it entails...
What is required of being that beyond what is generally recognized.
Most people...
Start the process of becoming...
But rarely finish that process.
They become stuck in some aspect of becoming...
Maybe there are certain things they do not want to do...
Maybe new challenges arise that they were not prepared for...
Maybe the begin to have doubts in themselves...
All of which are normal things that happen on the road of becoming...
But it is not about whether you encounter these and more...
It's about what you do in the face of these encounters.
Do you turn back?
Do you get stuck and stay put?
Or...
Do you figure out how to move forward?
This is a distinguishing factor between those who become trapped in becoming...
And those who are being.
People always want to be something...
But few people actually go through the process of becoming that thing.
Worse...
Many people believe that education makes you into something.
If I take the course...
If I get the certification...
If I get the degree...
Then I become that thing...
Wrong.
Education alone does not have the capacity to make you into anything.
Education is only the first step of becoming.
Learning how to write does not make you a writer.
Everyone in my classes through college learned how to write...
Different styles...
Different forms required for different industries...
I also took courses for writing after college...
And was surrounded by many people who wanted to become writers in their careers...
But the truth is...
Nearly none of them still write today...
Less than 1%...
Fewer still write consistently.
It has nothing to do with their capacity or ability to write...
Many of them were extremely talented...
But they didn't finish the process of becoming...
And they didn't continue to be a writer in their lives.
To be something...
You need to become consumed and obsessed with that thing...
It does not need to be your entire life...
It does not even need to pay you necessarily...
But you need to be living it daily in your life.
Few people are consistent enough to be something...
Willing to continually put in the work and effort required.
What you need to understand...
Is that the path to being something is a long and difficult path...
No matter what it is you wish to become.
Are you willing to go down the path of becoming...
And continue forward until being that thing is an undeniable part of who you are?
The truth is that few will...
But you may be different.
