I get hit with thousands of marketing messages a week.
We all do in today's world...
Most of the time, we do not even recognize it.
Think you are listening to a post for new information?
Turns out it is just a marketing message for a product or service...
Usually extremely sketchy if we're going to be honest.
Someone has sent you a message or email?
They are trying to sell you something.
But the reality is...
That about 99% of what I see...
I will never even consider purchasing or utilizing.
And I make that determination in about 3 seconds...
Especially when it comes to my business.
I can tell you some of the red flags that make me immediately say no.
Will my words stop people from doing these?
No.
Most people follow stupid advice from desperate people...
So, I know that I will continue to get these types of marketing.
But...
You might actually be smart enough to pay attention...
And avoid what everyone else is doing wrong...
That will lead them to their absolute long-term failure.
So what are some things that I look for?
If anyone says that they have worked with someone "similar" to me or with a "business" like mine...
I immediately say no.
What this individual has just told me is that they use cookie-cutter approaches and target people in a specific industry...
Meaning that their services will not help me stand out.
I will be just "another" individual in an oversaturated market...
Which tells me they really do not understand what marketing is about.
What else?
Template messages.
I get so many template messages that it makes me sick now.
When you see the same formula over and over again...
I know that they are simply using a spray and prey method of marketing...
And that is not the type of individual that I want to work with.
Another thing I look for?
Fake scarcity.
This is where people say they have a "limited number" of spots or discounts or whatever else you want to put there.
Sometimes, their websites will also have countdowns...
Which, if you reopen in an incognito tab, will restart the countdown...
Proving there is no real scarcity.
When I see this, I know that you are willing to emotionally manipulate me to get what you want...
And that is not someone I want to work with or whose services I want to utilize.
What else?
When people say that they respect the work that I am doing, or how they read or listened to some content I created...
But clearly they do not understand my work at all...
And they have not actually consumed any of the content I have created...
Because they are absolutely incorrect or nonsensical in what they say they saw.
What this tells me is that you are willing to both lie to me...
As well as attempt to flatter me...
Meaning that you are likely a sycophant...
Who is most likely unable to provide any high-quality service.
I do not want those types of individuals in my life or business.
What else?
AI-generated messages.
What you're telling me is that you are likely too cheap to hire real people...
Plus, most of the time, the messages are filled with errors that should have been checked...
Meaning that you do not care about the quality of your work.
No thank you.
What is another thing that I pay attention to?
Purposefully hiding information as deeply in a website as possible.
I look at a lot of different health products for my research and clients...
And if I have to go deep into a website to understand what is going on...
It is usually not a good sign.
Worse is when I look into FAQs and find hidden fees or claims that are not verified.
Such as "High-Quality Supplements", without any third-party verification.
If you cannot prove it to me...
Then it is hard to believe you in a world that lies so frequently...
And if you are purposefully hiding information in layers of information or failing to provide information at all...
Then it is worse.
Show me the evidence.
Show me the research.
Show me the truth.
If you cannot do that, then you are suspect at best, and I cannot trust someone who is not up-front and honest with me.
If you pay attention...
What you will notice in all of these situations...
The problem is a mismatch of values.
This is also...
What determines the long-term success of a business.
Relationships are built on value matches.
Businesses that take shortcuts...
Individuals who do not truly master their crafts...
Believing that quantity will overcome quality in the long term...
Always match values with similar types of organizations...
And end up with the same types of results.
Failure.
This is also why I do not work with these types of businesses.
I do not want that form of a reputation.
So I avoid those who create that form of reputation for themselves.
It is that simple.
If you want to avoid failure...
You must design your reputation very carefully.
