Have You Stopped... Really? The Surprisingly Large Blocker In Peak Performance

Have You Stopped... Really? The Surprisingly Large Blocker In Peak Performance

We live in a Non-Stop World.

People are Always Pushing to Go Further and Further, Each and Every Microsecond.

Go Faster.

Go Bigger.

Go Further.

It is Difficult to Not get Pulled into this Thinking.

It Permeates Modern Societies.

I'm Not Immune to this either.

I have a Tendency to Push and Push and Push.

However, there is a Downside to this.

Let me give you Two Examples.

The first is like a Racehorse with Blinders, the Only Direction Available is "Forward" on the Course.

Though the Racehorse is Excellent at Going Fast...

They Also Only Travel in Circles.

As Fast as they Go, and as Incredible as they Are...

They Never Get Anywhere.

Around and Around they Go, and Where They Stop...

Well, Everyone Knows because it is a Circle.

Or there is the Other Possibility...

You Decide to go "Straight" through a Forest.

The Idea being that "Straight" is the Fastest Way Through Two Points, a Basic Principle of Math.

But in Reality, there is Terrain that Slightly Alters Your Course.

Hills and Mountains make it Slower to go "Straight".

Thick Terrain makes Movement Forward Difficult.

You go through all of this, only to Discover that You became Way Off Track and have Ended Up Somewhere Completely Different from "Straight".

All of which could have been Avoided if you had just gone a little "Out of the Way" to find a Path that had been Created long ago, or Stopped to Use a Compass and Map to Ensure the Best Course.

The Problem in Both Scenarios is that our Desire to "Get" Somewhere Blinds Us to "Where" We Are Today.

I was Hit with a Moment like this Earlier Today.

I received a set of Interview Questions for a Hall of Fame Leadership Coach of the Year Award I will be receiving later in the year.

They do a Thorough Background Check for this Award, so some of the Questions are Very Direct.

However, One of the Parts of a Question Struck Me really hard...

"Another big change at The Leadership Guide was the development of two new categories within your work..."

The Immediate Question that went through my mind...

"Wait... which Categories are they talking about?"

This is a Consequence of the Speed I'm Moving at Sometimes.

I had Forgotten that "Wayset" was a New Category that I had only Recently Created.

Part of the Challenge for Me is the Way Time seems to become Relative to Our Goals within Flow States, which I wrote about a few days ago.

With this, Wayset has been an Idea I had in my Mind for a Few Years but only Landed on a Term Near the End of Last Year.

So, even though the Concept is not "New" to Me since I had been Focused on Living It "Before" the Term was Designed...

To others, it is a Novel Concept.

"Mindset" is still the Cultural "Norm" Today, and a Wayset is Beyond a Mindset because our Minds cannot always be Relied On to get to Our Goals.

I may be "Living" the Idea, but Others are Still Looking to "Understand" the Idea.

This is only One of the Dangers of Going Too Fast.

Sometimes, Others Cannot Keep Up.

There are Many Other Dangers of Not Stopping as Well, and they can become Gigantic Blockers in Peak Performance.

There is the Challenge of Burnout, of course, which is what happens when we Fail to Recover from Stressors Properly.

It is also only by Stopping that we Gain the Ability to Learn.

So Frequently, people are like the Racehorse, going in Circles and making the Same Mistakes Over and Over Again.

Their "Blinders" make them Believe they are Moving Forward when in Reality they are Stuck.

A Vicious Cycle.

With this, if we go back to the Idea of Others Not Keeping Up...

What Happens?

Well, all Major Projects in Life Require Teams.

If you Move Too Fast, then You Cannot Build a Team.

You become Limited to Only what you can Do by Yourself.

Since we are All Humans, we then become Trapped by our Weaknesses which we have No One to help us Overcome.

So, if you Really want to attain Peak Performance...

Stop.

Have You Stopped?

Really?

Completely and Fully?

Only in Stopping Can You Find The Best Way.
