Carpe Punctum - Understanding How Opportunity Often Exists In The Most Miniscule Of Windows

Carpe Punctum - Understanding How Opportunity Often Exists In The Most Miniscule Of Windows

Many people have heard the Phrase...

Carpe Diem.

Seize The Day.

The Idea is that You Must Take Hold of Each and Every Day that you have.

Each Day is a Gift.

A Potential.

One that, if you Do Nothing With...

Is Gone.

Forever.

There is a Reason that many people say that the Most Valuable Resource is Time.

We have an Unknown Amount from Birth.

Our Life Choices can Significantly Reduce the Amount.

As can Other's Life Choices.

Then, it All Ends.

Often without Warning.

One Day Here.

The Next...

Gone.

We have No Definite Answer into How Much Time We Have.

But the Guarentee that it is Dwindling.

Which brings up something interesting to think about...

Opportunities.

There is something Very Interesting about Opportunities.

In the Past, I have talked about the Cycle of Opportunity.

How some people say that Finding Opportunities is a Struggle and Nearly Impossible...

Others say that Finding Opportunities is Overwhelmingly Simple...

And How Both Are True when you Understand the Cycle of Opportunity.

But Regardless of Whether they are Simple or Difficult to Find...

There is Another Truth we must Recognize about All Opportunities.

They Exist in a Small Time Frame.

Sometimes, Extremely Small.

Maybe Days.

Hours.

Minutes.

Seconds.

I was reminded of this watching a TV Show Yesterday where the Character had a Gigantic Opportunity in front of them...

Extremely Risky...

Potentially Career Ending...

But One Tiny Gap of an Opportunity for a Goal that they had.

The show was Brilliant in Showing the Flow State that can become Unleashed in those Tiny Moments.

As we go into Flow, the part of our Brain that Accounts for Time Shuts Down in Favor of other parts of the Brain that Focus on Performance.

This is when people Describe how a Moment Felt like Forever.

Those Moments However "Are" Only Moments.

They May Be Gone As Quickly as they Arrive.

We May Not Have A Day.

Carpe Diem May Be Too Long.

Think about it Like This...

Let's Say that there are 12 Hours we Give Ourselves within a Day.

Some we have to Sleep For, as well as tend to other Bodily Needs such as Micro-Recoveries, so we're Estimating.

Within those 12 Hours, if we have Opportunities that could Come and Go within 30 Second Windows...

Again, an Estimation of Potential...

Then we are Looking at Up To 1,440 Opportunity Potentials in a Day.

Where Carpe Diem really Reveals itself as Too Long is within how Psychology Works...

Our Ability to Do Things in our Lives tends to "Fit" within How We Focus Our Lives.

So, If you tell yourself you have "Plenty" of Time to Do Something...

You Procrastinate...

Further...

And Further...

Until suddenly, there is No Time Left.

What happened to All of that Time?

Your Focus was Too Large.

There was Not Enough of a Push to Act.

By the Time there was a Push...

It was Too Late.

1,440 Opportunities to Do It.

Wasted.

Time will Always Fit the Focus.

If you Tell Yourself that you have a Full Day...

You'll likely do One to Three Tasks.

If you Tell Yourself that You're Wasting 1,440 Opportunities...

Suddenly, You Begin to Accomplish Significantly More.

Now, You will Not Accomplish 1,440 Things, because each Opportunity is only 30 Seconds, and Every Task of Worth will Require "More" than 30 Seconds...

But, if you Take Hold of Continuing Progress during "Each" Opportunity, then Significant Progress will be Made.

So if Carpe Diem is too Broad of a Focus...

Perhaps it should be Carpe Punctum.

Seize the Moment.

Each and Every Moment You're Able.

This will Also Allow You to See Something More Clearly...

The Tiny Opportunities that are Available.

When You Pay Attention to the 30 Second Increments...

Suddenly the Couple of Second Opportunities become Available to us.

In Focusing on Carpe Punctum...

We Begin to See the World Differently.

Where others May Wait for "Their Day"...

You Act...

Knowing...

Exactly How Quickly Moments Begin to Pass.

Now is the Time to Act.

Now Again.

Now Again.
