At What Cost? Contemplating The Future We Build

At What Cost? Contemplating The Future We Build

We Live is a Hyper World.

Things are Moving Hyper Fast.

Emotions are becoming Hyper-Reactive.

Stressors are Hyper Intense.

We are Pushing Limits More and More Frequently.

In many ways, this is Incredible.

If our Ancestors could see what we've accomplished, it might literally Blow their Minds.

Yet, there is something Deep Within Me that Stirs.

It makes me think of a Formula 1 Race.

These cars are some of the Fastest in the World.

Capable of hitting Over 230 Miles Per Hour (Over 370 Kilometers Per Hour) during a Race.

Yet, Despite having the Ability to Hit those Speeds...

They Average Only 120 Miles Per Hour (200 Kilometers Per Hour) in a Race.

Barely Over Half the Top Speed.

Why?

The Course.

There are Twists and Turns throughout the Course that these Cars Must Navigate.

If these Formula 1 Cars were to Hit these Twists and Turns at Top Speeds?

Disaster.

The Car Would Flip.

Crash.

Tumble.

Potentially, it could Catch Fire.

That is just going at Top Speeds, though.

It is not so bad at the Slower Speeds...

Is It?

In Truth, even "Minor" Accidents can Cost Millions of Dollars to Fix.

When the Design is for Speed at Nearly All Costs...

You have Pieces that are Extremely Custom and Extremely Costly...

All within a Design with No Goal for Protecting the Vehicle from Potential Damage.

Even when you have Extremely Talented Drivers...

Crashes Happen.

It makes me think of the Business Landscape Today.

I read that, supposedly (albeit, the source of this statistic is highly biased), that we are Experiencing "Hyper Moore's Law".

Moore's Law states that Computing Power Doubles Every Two Years.

Hyper Moore's Law claims that Computing Power is Doubling Every Six to Ten Months.

Now, Imagine making a Formula 1 Car Twice as Fast at that Rate...

What would Happen?

Especially if the Only Goal was More Speed?

More Crashes would Happen.

More Lives would be Threatened.

The Two Differences between Formula 1 Cars and Modern Businesses are that...

Instead of Speed, Businesses Focus Only on Profit...

And a Formula 1 Racer's Health and Wellbeing are More Focused on than Human Life in Business.

Which begs the Question...

At What Cost?

I am Absolutely Not Against Innovation.

I am Not Even Against AI.

But At What Cost are We Pushing Technologies Forward?

Are we Just Making Faster Cars at the Expense of the Lives of those who Drive the Cars?

When I Look at the World...

I Do Not See the Value of Most of what is Being Built.

We are "Told" They Will Be Valuable.

Indeed, there will be Uses for the Innovations We Create, I have No Doubts.

But at What Cost Are We Making Things?

Do the Costs Outweigh the Benefits?

Do they "Truly" Provide Value?

Or are they Just More Things that will Contribute to the Horrible Lives We have Already Built for Ourselves as Humans?

An Elaborate Zoo Cage that We Have Locked Ourselves Into.

Indeed, when you look at Our Health in Today's World, it is Not Unlike the Lives of Zoo Animals who have Lived in Isolation All their Lives.

Is This the Type of Life We Want to Live?

Are These the Costs We Want to Pay?

Do We Want to Live in Constant Terror?

Bridled With Depression, Loneliness, and Anxiety?

Cursed With Worsening Mental And Physical Health?

Is This Really The Future We Want To Build?

As We Build Our Future, We Must Realize...

All Flourishing Is Mutual.

This is a Psychophysiological Fact.

When you look at the Research around Positive Psychology, Flow Psychology, Physiology, Neurocardiology, Neurogastroenterology, and More...

They All Continue to Prove this True.

What Future Do We Want To Build?

At What Cost?
