A Tendency High Performers Often Get Wrong On The Path To Optimize Performance - Why It Holds Them Back

If you want to become a Leader, you are likely also interested in Peak Performance.

It makes sense - If "You" are at Your Best, it is more likely that those around you will get to their Best.

There is Psychophysiology that backs this up to an extent, including Flow Psychology, Neurocardiology, Resilience Training, Exemplar Leadership, and more.

It's not a "Perfect" System of course, but perhaps it is "More True" that if You are at your Worst, those around you will Refuse to Work Well.

So, as a Leader, it makes more sense to Lean toward being at Your Best.

This means that Most Leaders (and All Good Leaders) are Seeking Peak Performance.

However, over the years, I have both Seen and "Been" the Person who has made a Very Common Mistake.

When I say "Peak Performance", what do you think?

Most people immediately think up the most advanced Ideas of Peak Performance.

Maybe it is a Plethora of Supplements, Perfectly Timed down to the Minute (if not Second).

Timers that are going off, Indicating what you must do next in your Routine.

Achieving Near Miraculous Feats of Physical Strength, Endurance, and Conditioning.

Finding Exotic Plants from Distant Lands with Names No One Knows how to pronounce.

Apps and Devices that are used to Track, Monitor, and Adjust your Life to get the Best Possible Results.

Perhaps you think of Surgery and Medical Procedures that Unlock Specific Traits in you.

I get it, I have seen, heard of, tested, used, and researched "Many" of these different things in my own journey toward Peak Performance.

I have gone out of my way with these types of things to become the best version of myself.

But here's the Trap.

Most of these, together, add up to a 1% Gain.

How could that be?

Aren't these supposed to help people become Superhuman?

Well, the Trap is that Peak Performance Only Exists when you have a Solid Base of the Basics.

You will get 80% - 90% of the way, on average, to Peak Performance with only a couple of things.

Decent Diet with Primarily Non-Processed Food.

Breathing Practice to Establish a Better Baseline.

General Fitness, Consistently.

Small Action toward your Goals with Focus, Daily.

Spending Time Outside and with Those You Care For, Daily.

Doing some Small Good in the World Around You.

Having Gratitude, Daily.

Getting Good Sleep - It doesn't even need to be "Great".

If you do these at about 80% Success, you will Achieve Peak Performance Frequently and Quickly Outclass people doing all the Minuscule things that add up to 1% together.

All of those other things I mentioned earlier "are" really cool (well... most of them anyhow, some are just weird).

They "Can" Provide Benefits to Achieve Peak Performance and Reach Top Levels...

BUT!

They "Only" Achieve this "When" the Basics are Dialed In.

Some people believe these things "Replace" the Basics, but they Do Not.

At "Best" they can Raise your current levels for a "Short" Period of Time.

However, without the Basics, you will just Drop Back to where you were Before.

At "Worst" they are a Scam to make you pay Obscene Money for Less Than 1% Gains, mostly driven by the Placebo Effect.

I've been Hooked into those as well, Trust Me, the Majority of "Peak Performance" Tools and Supplements only "Work" because of the Placebo Effect.

This is also Why you'll hear about something, it'll go Viral, and then No One will talk about it anymore after a Year...

Placebo-Driven "Results".

If you "Really" want to Achieve Peak Performance, start with the Basics.

If you Struggle with that, don't worry, that is Common.

I wrote Yesterday about Why so many Struggle with Behavior Change.

If you are Still Struggling, it is Always Beneficial to get a Coach to Aid You toward Your Goals.

I know that I have had Many Coaches over the Years who have been Tremendously Helpful toward my own Growth.

Even when I "Know" most of these Aspects of Growth, an Outside Perspective is often a Key Differentiator in Catching Small Things that can make Major Differences.

Wherever you are though, Start with Mastering the Basics.

"Only" if you get those Solidly, should you begin to Pursue the 1% Tactics, and I'd suggest "with" Help from someone who Deeply Understands the Science behind them.
